Yorkshire Property Charity Football 2011

September 2011

Urban Land InstituteWe are pleased again to be supporting the Yorkshire Property Charity Football 2011.

The Yorkshire Property Charity Football event gives property and business professionals from across the region the chance to compete alongside ex-football professionals in a one-off match which will be watched by hundreds of spectators.

The date for this years’ charity match has been set for Thursday 15th September at Wellington Place and MEPC are set to create a purpose built, full size football pitch to host the event.

There will be a sports themed, post match dinner held at The Queens Hotel; tables of ten are available from just £600. Regional business are being urged to show support for the event which raises much needed funds for children’s charity Barnardo’s.

Last year Yorkshire Property Charity Football raised more than £20,000 for the worthy cause and hopes to surpass this total in 2011 with the help of some fantastic auction prizes and increased table bookings at the dinner.

Branding Crucial for city growth

August 2011

Urban Land InstituteResearch published by think tank the Urban Land Institute (ULI) claims that, with increasing competition between cities in Europe to attract business and consumers, "the role of city branding in building awareness and reputation is more important than ever".

It says that establishing a strong identity for a city is a crucial way not only of selling a city and thereby boosting its economic growth, but also of influencing place making in a city.

However, it argues that simply creating a brand is not enough to attract new investors – a brand should be managed and developed over time.

Greg Clark, senior research fellow at ULI, said: "It is not enough for a city to have a brand that attracts tourists. Cities must have an identity that reaches across different markets and customers and tells a unifying story about the value [of that] city.

"The key point is that identity does not just help us to sell our city; it is also critical to shaping and building our city."

The study examines different approaches to branding in four cities – London, Hamburg, Barcelona and Edinburgh.

June 2010

Following all the hard work carried out by the team we are delighted to announce that Team Bury scooped up joint best Public Sector partnership with Stockport MBC at last night's Insider Property awards dinner.

The team beat Central Salford and Rochdale Development Agency to the award.

The public sector partnership was an initiative organised by members of Team Bury, including Bury College, Bury Council, NHS Bury, Police, Holycross College, and a number of the investors currently working on development projects in Bury, including Ask Developments, Property Alliance Group, Hammerson, the Mill Gate Shopping Centre.

There were three important projects which Team Bury was judged on:

  • The Green at Chamberhall, a £20m Property Alliance Group Development with 92,000 sq ft of Grade A office accommodation.
  • Knowsley Place, an £80m Askbury, a 450,000 sq ft mixed-use development.
  • The Rock, a £330m Hammerson Development, with 1.6m sq ft of retail and leisure development.
The awards, which were held at Manchester Central, act as a showcase for developments in the North West and serve as a social highlight in the annual property calendar.

Chair of the Local Strategic Partnership, Councillor Bob Bibby at Bury Council said: "The face of Bury Town Centre is being transformed by significant regeneration and redevelopment programmes. We are delighted to have won this award and honoured to be recognised at an event highly regarded in the region's commercial property sector.

"This is quite a unique partnership which brings both public and private sector partners together round one table to promote a common message about Bury and support the work being carried out at the various development sites."

Already home to an award winning market, Bury town centre will see two major developments completed in the coming months, both the £80m Askbury mixed-use Knowsley Place scheme and The Rock, a 1.6m sq ft retail, leisure and residential scheme including 400 apartments, with anchor tenants Marks and Spencer, Debenhams, and a 10-screen cinema.
